In Retrospect Magazine was an independent vintage lifestyle publication built around the idea of “a modern magazine for old fashioned people.”
The editorial work brought together features, interviews, reviews, style pieces, historical context, photography and page layouts into a consistent magazine voice. Rather than treating vintage culture as nostalgia alone, the magazine framed it as a living scene: social, visual, practical, opinionated and full of contemporary relevance.

Editorial voice
The magazine needed a voice that could move between research, commentary, humour, practical advice and visual storytelling.
The editorial tone balanced enthusiasm with clarity, allowing individual contributors and subjects to retain their own voices while keeping the publication coherent across fashion, interiors, music, history, events and everyday vintage culture.
Page structure & issue-making
Each issue brought together many different kinds of material: cover stories, features, interviews, reviews, opinion pieces, style guides and shorter editorial details.
The work was not only about individual pieces of copy, but about how those pieces sat together: shaping the rhythm of an issue, matching words to images, building page hierarchy and giving readers a clear route through a wide range of subjects.
